How to Pick a Fragrance

How to Pick a Fragrance

It is time to refresh our fragrance, knowing that there is some analogy between the fragrance we wear and our appearance. Continue reading this if you wish to check how to pick a fragrance.

Perfume is a very personal affair for everyone. It is our identity, the expression of our emotions, our favorite childhood odors that push us unconsciously to choose what suits us. Undoubtedly, choosing a fragrance, whether it be us or our loved one or our best friend, is not an easy task. To make the right choice, we rely on our instincts above all. But it is good to know some basic rules that may be useful.

The fragrance that fits us

A related study by perfumers proves that: Light-skinned blondes prefer cool, floral scents. The blondes with crispy skin choose cool, more sophisticated floral fragrances, but also slightly woody and oriental. Light-skinned redheads can wear all the woody, soft oriental fragrances, as well as those based on flowers. Chestnuts again, with light-skinned skins prefer wood- or citrus-based aromas and oriental scents. Finally, brides choose the most intense woody, heavy oriental, and intricate floral scents.

FRAGRANCE CATEGORIES

Parfum: This is the fragrance in its purest version (with 20-40% aromatic content), so it is naturally more expensive and more intense. If you choose a perfume, use a minimal amount (one drop on each ear is enough). Otherwise, the result will be rather unpleasant to those around you.

Eau de Parfum: It is the same intense, yet has less aroma (12-20%), so it lasts less than Parfum.

Eau de Toilette: The most popular category because it is suitable for morning and evening hours and for everyday use. Its fragrance content is 8-12%.

Eau de Cologne: Also known as Cologne water or otherwise cologne. Created in 1806 by the French perfume maker J. M. Farina, it was a huge success. The cologne lasts a little (its fragrance content is 2 – 5%), but it leaves a nice sense of cleanliness and coolness than the rest, so it is ideal for summer. It is also the most economical category.

THE AROMATIC GROUPS

According to the French perfumers (Société Française des Parfumeurs), a fragrance is classified into one of the following 7 families according to its predominant ingredient.

Citrus: This is where the essential oils of fruit such as bergamot, orange, tangerine, lemon, and neroli dominate (coming from the orange). They are the main ingredients of Eau de colognes.

Flowers: Here, we have the essential oils we get from various herbs, such as peony, jasmine, rose, violet, orange blossom, gardenia, etc.

Fuser: These are aromatic herbal compositions, combined with spices (eg, various kinds of peppers, star anise), vanilla, amber, etc.

Chypre: In the early 20th century, a famous French perfumer, François Coty, inspired a fragrance that reminded him of Cyprus. Top notes are thyme, coriander, patchouli, exotic fruits, and elements of the Mediterranean countryside.

Woody: Cedar, pine, sandalwood, cinnamon, myrtle, and other garden freshness players are the protagonists in this case.

Leather: This family of fragrances includes notes – usually artificial – that mimic the smell of leather, burnt wood, and smoke.

Oriental: Central to the musk, an animal substance, combined with adhesive materials (amber, frankincense, myrrh) and other categories, such as spices.

HOW TO PICK A FRAGRANCE (Q&A)

TRUTH, WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE TO TALK EVERY TIME TO THE SUITABLE FRAGRANCE FOR US?

You should know that depending on the ingredients in their composition, the fragrances belong to a “family.” A fragrance with cool notes of citrus gives us vigor and vitality, it scents us subtly, leaving a breeze in our passage. It is ideal for morning hours. For stronger emotions and intoxicating aroma, we would prefer those that give off fragrances, are airy and feminine. Some of them are lighter (with violet or mint flavor), some more moderate (rose or jasmine) and others more intense (gardenia or lily). For sweeter, lighter scents, we prefer the fruity aromas, which are based on the smell of fresh strawberry, mango, or lemon. For men, we prefer woody aromas, which give off a warm and peppery scent.

IF YOU ARE WOMEN WHO LIKE TO WAKE UP THE PASSION IN YOUR CLASS, WHAT SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

In this case, you should choose a fragrance with exotic fruits (oriental). These fragrances usually contain amber, vanilla, patchouli or aromatic wood scents.

Each fragrance also has a different base, that is, an ingredient that prevails over others and characterizes its scent. So each different base is also addressed to a different type of woman.

  • If you want to feel fresh and seductive, prefer a fragrance based on flowers. After all, it is no coincidence that flowers have been associated with femininity since ancient times. Aztecs first devised floral scents by spraying fresh blossoms, while Chinese from the Tang dynasty used to spray from top to toe.
  • If you want to feel serene and witty, prefer a wood-based fragrance (such as oak and cedar). These fragrances trigger your brain to recreate the same emotion and the same well-being emotions you experience when enjoying a walk in a mountain forest.
  • If you want to feel romantic and sexy, opt for a fragrance based on amber and cinnamon. Aromas of warm notes like vanilla, musk, and amber – also called “oriental.” Since most of their ingredients come exclusively from Asia – create passion sparks and erotic electric signals in your brain. These deep notes can become very intense as your body warms up, making you feel much more desirable.
  • If you want to feel lively and energetic, prefer a citrus-based fragrance. The chilled, light notes and juices of juices such as mint, lemon, and many citrus fruits give refreshing, vibrant, and fruity to all your senses. This category of fragrances awakens the brain, raises the pace, and acts directly on the nervous system, positively affecting mood.

Extra Tip: There are some ingredients and essential oils, such as the following, that have particular, beneficial properties.

Lavender: Reduces stress, increases concentration.

Orange: Reduces stress and improves mood.

Sweet fragrances: Inhaling sweet aromas relieves physical pain, as they are likely to affect pain-control endorphins.

Woody scents: It enhances the sense of freedom and joy.

Rose: Rose essential oil reduces adrenaline levels by up to 30% making us feel calmer.

Try them in your bath or in a special combustion chamber always dissolved in water.

IN COSMETICS STORES, HOW TO CHOOSE A PERFUME?

IN COSMETICS STORES, HOW TO CHOOSE A PERFUME

Visiting a perfume shop to buy perfume can be very tiring if you haven’t figured out exactly what you want. Looking for a fragrance for the whole day, for the office or for the evening outings? If you limit your choices a little, things will be easier. First, you should decide which scents you like – woody, white flowers, roses, or spices – and look for a fragrance that contains them. Trying too many scents will probably confuse you. If they are similar, with the same aromatic base, after a while, we will not be able to distinguish them. So you’re limited to five or six fragrances, as different as possible. You could spray as many scents as you like on the special papers, but the ones you like the most try them on our skin, each at a different point. Wait at least 15 minutes to smell it and an hour to get to its final form. The same fragrance smells different from person to person because the acidity of the pH of the skin is different in each of us.

HOW DO YOU GET A PERFECT FRAGRANCE?

Your fragrance should not evaporate in a matter of minutes, nor should it soothe the atmosphere around you. With the right moves, you can smell beautiful for a long time without bothering the other persons around you. So you apply the fragrance right after the shower and before you get dressed. With this way, your clothes will get a more subtle smell than if you put it on when you are already dressed. If you apply Eau de Parfum, you should spray three times, and if you apply eau de toilette, you could spray three to five times. If your skin is oily, you could apply a little less. You should always apply the same amount of fragrance, even if it doesn’t seem to smell great. Remember: The system of “spraying through the air” is not effective. You are wasting your expensive perfume for no reason. Better to spray directly on the skin.
